Description

JAPANESE CARVED IVORY FIGURE OF AN ELEPHANT, MEIJI PERIOD, LATE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY.
The saddle cloth carved with figural panels, mounted overall with "jewels" and mother-of-pearl flowers and leaves. Height 12 ¼ inches.
Literature: A similar example was sold at Sotheby's New York, April 2009, lot 12.
