Pennsylvania. Welted pocket set horizontally on the outside. This is probably a private purchase jacket. Lead buttons with eagle and patriotic shield bearing the letter I.. Three matching buttons on each sleeve with beige and red chevrons on both sleeves. Interior with red and beige cotton lining that is partially detached from the body of the jacket. The consignor relates that this is his Great-Great Grandfather's Mexican War Jacket (Edward O'Brien Born in Pittsburg October 10 1823) and that he was a member of the ''Irish Greens'' - a volunteer unit from Pittsburg area. Later in his career this soldier fought in the Civil War with the 134th
Pennsylvania Volunteers as a colonel.This jacket was on the Antiques Roadshow and the appraiser valued it at $10 000. The lot comes with an affadavit from the Great-Great Grandson. Condition: Top button on jacket is missing. Second button from the bottom is mis-shapened. Nominal mothing. Very good.
